Who Is Caitlin Clark's Boyfriend, Connor McCaffery

Caitlin Clark is a genuine women’s basketball superstar, and her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, couldn’t be prouder of the crown jewel of the Iowa Hawkeyes lineup. Caitlin Clark became something of a household name during the 2023 NCAA championship game when rival Angel Reese of Louisiana State University taunted her with the same gesture Caitlin Clark had previously used in games.

The exchange between the 2 star players in the closing moments of the game went viral, but Caitlin Clark did not see a lot of the posts about it. She told ESPN,

“I honestly didn’t see it when it was going on, and like I said, I haven’t really been on social media at all.”

After the game, Caitlin Clark parlayed her visibility into a lucrative endorsement deal with Gatorade, and she also returned to posting on social media, where that August, she went public with her relationship with Connor McCaffery in a three-photo Instagram post.

She captioned it,

“Best end to summer.”

Earlier that month, Caitlin Clark dropped hints about the romance when Connor McCaffery uploaded a carousel of snaps from his trip to Paris to Instagram.

She replied to his post,

“Paris king.”

The couple seems to be a good fit, both have been part of the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball program.

Connor’s roots with the Hawkeyes date back long before he started dating Caitlin Clark. His father, Fran McCaffery, is the men’s basketball team’s head coach, and Connor joined the program in 2017. When he first arrived at the university, Connor McCaffery was a 2-sport athlete, playing both baseball and basketball.

He told Inside the Hawkeyes in March 2023,

“I was kind of living in chaos.”

Health issues prevented Connor from competing in full during his first year at Iowa; he was red-shirted as a freshman.

After his baseball career hit a major roadblock, his basketball career continued. Eventually, Connor carved out a name for himself as a point guard for the Hawkeyes, where playing for his dad brought extra scrutiny. He told Inside the Hawkeyes,

“I used to wonder why I had to prove myself more than others. I think that bothered me.”

That said, he appreciated that he got to have his dad as his coach.

“Playing for your dad versus not playing for your dad, the positives outweigh the negatives.”

As Connor’s playing career was coming to a close, he started eyeing a career in coaching, away from his dad.

In May 2023, Connor landed a job with the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, first working on the coaching staff of their G-League team. Connor told Hawk Central,

“I want to get away and try to learn from someone else, somewhere else. I’ve always been under my dad’s shadow and tutelage.”

Connor clearly still has ties to Iowa, though, and continues to follow Clark’s career closely.

Connor’s X feed is filled with posts about milestones Clark has passed on the court. In November 2023, he posted a photo of Clark playing to his Instagram Stories and gave her the nickname.

Clark made history in December 2023, becoming one of only 15 women to cross the 3,000 points mark in NCAA history. Connor celebrated the accomplishment with an Instagram story that read,

“Stack em up.”

Connor once again took to social media to heap praise on his girlfriend when Iowa secured its spot in the Final Four. In an April 1, 2024 rematch of the previous year’s finals against the LSU Tigers, the Hawkeyes won 94-87. It was the most-watched women’s basketball game of all time, and Clark put up a blistering statline of 41 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds. Connor reposted an ESPN graphic of his girlfriend’s stats to his Instagram Stories, writing,

“Out of words for this 1 @caitlinclark22.”

Connor also posted on X about Clark’s performance, writing that it was

Connor’s praise isn’t just limited to sports, though. In January, he shared a heartfelt Instagram post to celebrate Clark’s birthday, writing,

“With all that you’ve already accomplished, there is so much more in store for you and your special self. I admire you in every way, and I love you.”
