Vanessa Bryant’s Heartbreaking Tribute To Gigi’s 18th Birthday

Vanessa Bryant's Heartbreaking Tribute To Gigi's 18th Birthday

It’s been just over 4 years since Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna tragically died in a helicopter crash. On what would have been Gigi’s 18th birthday, Vanessa bryant is honoring her memory.

A Heartfelt Tribute

At the time of her death, Gigi was just shy of turning 14. On May 1, 2024, what would have been her 18th birthday, Vanessa posted a carousel of photos and videos of her daughter to the tune of “My Girl” by the Temptations. “Babe, you take care of our Gigi.”

The images alone were enough to elicit tears, but the caption was even more heartbreaking. Vanessa wrote, “Happy birthday to my gorgeous girl, Gigi! I love you. I miss you. I’m so proud of you.”

Reflecting on What Could Have Been

Vanessa then went into what Gigi could have expected from the year. She wrote, “2024 was your year. You would’ve been graduating high school and choosing which college to go to. (I would’ve been trying my hardest to convince you to stay close to home).”

Vanessa ended her message to Gigi by saying her daughter’s influence continues to live on, writing, “I’m proud of the change in sports you and daddy worked so hard on. You continue to motivate me and inspire young women and girls daily. I love you always, mommy. #PlayGigisWay #Mambacita Forever. #18.”

Tributes Pour In

Once Vanessa honored Gigi, the birthday wishes for her late daughter didn’t stop. A flood of comments, many from celebrities, on Vanessa’s post honored what would have been Gigi’s 18th birthday.

Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner wrote, “Happy Birthday to your beautiful Angel light Gigi sending so much love.”

Actor Viola Davis added, “Beautiful!! Happy birthday Gigi.” Comedian George Lopez also gave a special shoutout to Gigi, commenting, “Happy Birthday GiGi. #MambacitaForever.” Those were just a few of the many celebrities who took time out to honor Gigi.

Tributes from Close Ones

Some of those closest to Gigi also shared their own posts for the special day. Her older sister Natalia Bryant took time to post a tribute of her own. She shared several photos of herself and Gigi in her Instagram story, and posted a photo of the two in their younger years.

Honoring Beyond Social Media

Gianna’s memory isn’t just being honored with social media posts. Her philanthropist mom has also collaborated with Nike to create a Gigi-inspired sneaker, which launched on her birthday.

Vanessa shared photos of the sneakers a few days before the release.

The Legacy Continues

Vanessa also revealed that the profits from the shoe would go to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, which she created following the death of her husband and younger daughter.
